Utah’s Best Fishing Spots
Whether you are a seasoned fisherman or just learning the ropes, Utah has a fishing spot for you. Many fishing spots in Utah can be driven to in under thirty minutes from the Wasatch front, providing individuals and families with many options to get outside and catch the big one.
Deer Creek Reservoir
Located in the beautiful Heber Valley, Deer Creek Reservoir is a wonderful spot to visit for fishing, boating, zip lining, and swimming. This fall, you’ll find the drive to the reservoir to be stunning with the many trees and bushes bursting with color. However, Deer Creek Reservoir is accessible year around and has accommodations for drift boats of all sizes, along with great camping options. Check out Deer Creek Reservoir year around for some of the best fishing in the Utah.
Weber River
A great fishing option for residents of Ogden, UT and the surrounding area is the Weber River. Located about twenty minutes away from Weber State University, this river can be easily accessed by car and houses a large variety of trout like rainbows, cutthroats, brookies and browns. Other fish are also known to swim the Weber, including whitefish and graylings. Another draw to this river is that it can be fished year around! However, the primetime to fish the Weber River would be summer into late fall.

Starvation Reservoir
If you don’t mind taking a bit of a drive off the Wasatch Front and the beaten path, Starvation Reservoir is a great fishing spot. The reservoir is situated to the northwest of Duchesne, UT, meaning that it you won’t have to put up a fight for a fishing spot or deal with many people as you putter across the water. For a fishing trip ripe with trout, perch and walleyes, you’ll want to make your way over to Starvation Reservoir.
Upper Provo River
The Upper Provo River is a haven for all those who enjoy fishing, but especially fly fishermen. The river is large and houses many kinds of fish, but typically has a substantial population of trout including rainbows and browns. Anyone with a fishing license can fish in the Upper Provo River, within the public boundaries of the National Forest. This part of the river can be accessed from the State Highway 35. The Upper Provo is best fished from March to early November, as snow can make it difficult to travel there in the winter.
Strawberry Reservoir
While there are many more great fishing spots in Utah, the last one on today’s list is Strawberry Reservoir. Located about 23 miles east of Heber City and 65 miles from SLC, Strawberry Reservoir is the perfect spot for a weekend fishing trip. Known for having large cutthroats, rainbows, and kokanee salmon that can be caught with little effort, Strawberry Reservoir is the top stillwater fishery for Utah drift boat fishermen. However, due to its popularity, it is important to keep up-to-date on all catch-and-release laws for Strawberry Reservoir.
