An oar with less flex and more fortitude.Whitewater-river-rafting-with-cataraft-inflatable-pontoon-raft-and-ice-blue-SGG-composite-oars-made-in-the-USA-by-Cataract-Oars

While our SGG oar will work in almost all conditions, the SGX is crafted for those brutal runs that really torture your oars. Under moderate river conditions, many rowers prefer the flex and rebound of the SGG. In truly belligerent waters, however, most river rats find SGG oars a bit too pliant. Considerably stiffer than the SGG, the SGX oar resists major displacement by those massive whitewater surges.Ice blue SGX oar shaft made in the USA by Cataract Oars

The better oar for bigger boats.

For moving a heavier raft or boat, you don't want the dissipated energy of too much rebound. Our customers appreciate the rigidity of the SGX when hauling away on a big rig.

A more rigid oar for burlier whitewater.

Lest you think that the SGX oar is too stiff, however—it isn't. We've done our homework on this beast, giving it just enough backbone to stand up to serious punishment, while offering enough flex to know you're rowing with a carbon and fiberglass composite oar shaft from Cataract Oars. You'll appreciate the lower rebound, but you won't mistake the SGX for those old-school oars. You know, the ones that perform and feel like cast iron. When you're really torquing the SGX, you'll find it has the ideal amount of responsiveness for high-strain conditions.

The SGX oar contains a lotta carbon.

The SGX oar features a higher percentage of carbon in its carbon and fiberglass composite blend than does the SGG oar. More carbon equals less weight and more strength on the river. Thus, the SGX oar can be stiffer, yet weigh a bit less than the SGG.

Ice blue and lengthy oars.

Cataract Oars offers the SGX in one color and two standard lengths: ten feet and eleven feet. If you're rowing a bigger craft, you need a longer oar—that's why. We'll do custom SGX lengths as well, if you ask nicely. Actually, if you ask at all. Just ask and we'll do it.

Shorten your SGX oars by half.

For better portability and compact storage, you may want the two-piece version of our SGX shaft. On the water, snap the two halves together and you've got a full-length oar.

Choosing the right SGX oar configuration.

So, one color, Ice Blue, and two standard lengths: 10' and 11'. For handle options, you've got your good ol' rubber composite, your alder, your counterbalanced handle and the H20 interchangeable counterbalance system. The SGX composite shaft is compatible with all of our blades: Magnum II, Cataract and Razor. And remember, as is the case with all of our oars, you can order the SGX with or without the rope wrap on the shaft.
